Monday Game.

Before you go out in this world or if you’re already out there, I want to say something to you.

Like my man SHAD says, “The past is history and the future is a mystery.” I understand that to mean that everything in this moment is as it should be because everything in this moment was willed by the almighty for you to experience.

As I sit here nestled in the depths of the country, on a personal retreat, I’m reminiscing. The soft patter of raindrops against the window and they rhythmic tapping of my fingers are the only noises filling the room, yet they take me back to a familiar moment. Recently I was driving down Atlanta’s 75/85 at 2am, blasting Payroll Giovanni’s “Big Bossin VOL 2.” The lights of the city were especially brilliant for some reason, twinkling with meaning and purpose– as if they were speaking to me.

I started to think, deeply, as I am now.

One of those bald-headed, sweaty screaming preachers dropped a real gem the other day. The knowledge came to me through Steve Harvey, who I was watching as a guest on Jerry Seinfeld’s “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” He said that after preaching, he interacted with two women. The first was enthralled and thanked him vehemently for his sermon. The second was abhorred and chastised him. He said:

“I wasn’t moved by the comments of either woman because I knew who I was when I woke up this morning.”

Now the Christians are on judgemental bullshit sometimes, but I respect game anyway that I can get it, and that was a gem.

The fastest way to the darkness is to live your life chasing exterior fulfillment, especially when you’re seeking the approval of people who don’t even like themselves.

Live for you.

Nobody can tell you shit if you do your best every single day. If you can go to sleep happy with your deeds, with a clean face and your health intact? You’re doing better than 80% of the world because whether it be some of the time or all of the time, everyone is an asshole.

All our lives, we’ve been taught to seek outside validation and external stimuli, not recognizing that the answers lie within ourselves.  In reality, it seems that the key to everything in life is to maintain some sort of balance. Navigating emotions in a way that’s effective to produce efficiency in everyday life. The ideology of remaining grounded and maintaining a square is really working for me and those who I come in contact with. I believe that only through the exploration of self can we find the answers to the questions that keep us up at night.

So love who your heart yearns for because even if they don’t love you back, there’s always a lesson and opportunity in the darkness. Do what makes you happy and shoot for the stars because even if you miss, you still can admire the galaxy as you fly.

Lastly, realize that you must monitor your thoughts at all times because thoughts become your feelings and when thoughts and feelings combine, they create reality.

So I’m going to tell you like Jeezy told me,

“Bitch get ya mind right.”

from the we$t end with love–
